Deadpool is the best assassin in the Marvel Universe. Unfortunately, he's also the most insane thing ever. He's the star of three monthly comics, Deadpool (vol. 2), Deadpool: Merc With a Mouth, and the upcoming Deadpool Team-up.
Wade Wilson was originally created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza to be Marvel's equivalent of DC's Deathstroke The Terminator, who debuted in New Mutants (vol. 1) #98. Over time, Nicieza and other writers made Deadpool more of a comical character to differentiate him from Deathstroke, who is SRS BZNS. Deadpool is now anything but.
Before his current series', Deadpool has been the titular star of two miniseries, Deadpool: The Circle Chase and Deadpool: Sins of the Past, as well as his own ongoing series (Deadpool (vol. 1)) that ran for 71 issues (1-69, #0, and # -1) from 1997-2002, and Cable & Deadpool, where he was teamed up and had misadventures with X-Force's former leader in a series that ran for 50 issues between 2004 and 2008. Hooray, run-on sentences; Feel free to clean that one up. Most recently, Deadpool: Suicide Kings (5 issues, 2009) tested the waters and see if the market could handle two simultaneously-running Deadpool series.
New Mutants #98, Deadpool: The Circle Chase and Deadpool: Sins of the Past as well as Deadpool #1 are collected in Classic Deadpool: Volume 1. Classic Deadpool Volume 2 contains Deadpool #2-8 and # -1, and Daredevil/Deadpool Annual 1997. Classic Deadpool Volume 3 will contain Deadpool #9-17, and Amazing Spider-Man #47.
