The Simpsons family celebrates its many achievements

"The Simpsons" is an animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. Intended for mature audiences, the series shifted the paradigm of cartoons by offering a satirical parody of a middle-class American lifestyle and lampoons modern culture, society, politics, television, and many aspects of the human condition. The main characters are Bart Simpson, his father Homer, his mother Marge, and his sisters Lisa and Maggie.

The show started on December 17, 1989, and over the following 20+ years, it aired 486+ episodes, won dozens of awards, inspired numerous other adult-oriented animated sitcoms, originated new words to Merriam Webster's English dictionary, and surpassed Gunsmoke as the longest running American primetime entertainment series. In 2007, The Simpsons family hit the big screen with its first full-length feature film but, although it grossed over $100 million at the domestic box offices, it was not very well received by critics or audiences. Ed The K Motley was especially disappointed in the movie, feeling that if it started with Homer mocking the paying audience, it had to exceed expectations or it would prove his statements true and sour the viewers.

It was the favorite TV program of many viewers for its first 15 seasons before its characters started falling flat and its writing became less inspired. Fortunately, these early seasons are available for purchase, which is a commonly enjoyed pasttime at The Casa when Wesley embarks on placing one of the discs into the DVD player.
