A Video Game Franchise is any video game series that spans more games than just direct sequels and prequels. Street Fighter, Castlevania, Megaman, Dance Dance Revolution, Sonic the Hedgehog and Mortal Kombat are examples of video game franchises. Streets of Rage and Super Mario Kart are not franchises, since each game can be places in a sequential, chronological order, and there aren't any major gameplay differences to the games.
