After getting national exposure through AWA, Yokozuna joined the WWF in mid-1992 billed at 505 pounds. He bulldozed through the competition, winning the 1993 Royal Rumble for a title shot at WrestleMania, where he defeated Bret Hart for the title but promptly lost it to Hulk Hogan. However, he regained the championship at King of the Ring in June and kept a stranglehold on the championship for the next nine months, turning back challengers like Lex Luger, The Undertaker, Crush, Bret Hart, Randy Savage, Tatanka, and others.
After losing the championship, he went MIA until WrestleMania XI when he teamed with Owen Hart to win the WWF Tag Team Championship. Owen, Yokozuna, and British Bulldog acquired James E. Cornette as their manager, and they worked as a trio until Cornette replaced Yokozuna with The Man They Call Vader. When Cornette dumped Yokozuna, Master Fuji went with Yokozuna and he started waving the American flag. Yokozuna teamed with Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Ahmed Johnson at WrestleMania XII to face Camp Cornette.
Tipping the scales over 800 pounds, the WWF released Yokozuna as a means to encourage him to lose weight. His last WWF match was in November 1996 at Survivor Series. Instead of losing weight, though, Yokozuna gained weight and went as high as 802 pounds in his lifetime, although he had started losing weight before his passing in October 2000. His weight at the time of his death was reported at 700 pounds.
